I know it's been a while, I have been super busy outside of my Etsy shop. Still trying to revamp my own website (maggiesjewelryshop.com); just can't seem to get the SEO right on that baby. I've also had this cold that's going around, not fun at all and thanks to three kids in school -- they get me sick all the time.
I have also been working on some writing for my Veteran's Writing Workshop I go to as frequently as I can -- it's an amazing experience each time I go and I am so thankful for it. Also, I have finally been keeping up this season with my Thesis -- I am only two days behind this year. But, I am okay with that because it took a few extra tries to get the proposal through.
But -- what I am really writing about is the One Big Sale Day on Etsy. More than 100 shops (including mine) are participating.
For my shop, it's one day at 20% off a $30 or more purchase with code OBSD4OCT2014 -- make sure you use that during checkout.
From Making Jewelry to make ends meet, to taking care of three kids while running my etsy shop -- these are our adventures

Grow Up...
When I awoke this morning there was a fabulous treasury featuring my emerald necklace. But it was the title that really made me giggle. It's called "grow-up," and just made me snicker. Here it is below:
Enjoy!

Every so often, dainty, tiny stud earrings come into fashion again. This year is one of those years. I have been having a lot of fun perfecting wire wrapped studs in the shop this spring -- and they are turning out adorable and are available in such variety it's hard not to steal many of them for my own jewelry box. Below, find a super fun variety in multiple gemstones and colors.

Catch a Falling Star
There's this movie I just love -- it's called Stardust. My mom told me to watch it a few years ago and being the hopeless closeted sap I am -- I fell in love. It's just such a cute movie, and nice to keep on in the background: if for nothing else to watch Robert De Niro in drag prancing around a flying ship.
That's part of why I named the necklace in this fabulous treasury "Catch a Falling Star" -- which is also the name of the treasury.

Gloomy Monday -- Bright Orchid
I admit -- I have my phone set to "do not disturb" each evening because I also have push notifications set for all my sites. Often, there are sales in the middle of the night, and before I set my phone to "do not disturb" I woke up to loud cha-ching's or "dings" in the middle of the night.
It's an odd situation though, not seeing anything until the next morning, so invariably, I feel like I wake up behind -- not that I would be able to honestly ship in the middle of the night. It doesn't matter, I still feel behind, because I often feel like many of my items are gifts and needed quickly.
So I prepare items for shipping at the crack of dawn, as my kids are dressing for school, so that I can mail quickly in the morning (knowing full well that item's won't really move at the post office until specific times are met -- 1:30 pm is the earliest on weekdays, 5:30 pm is the latest). Still, I like to have items there because in my mind they are still "moving" along their trajectory to their final, happy destination.

2014 year of Radiant Orchid by CoolAndChicIt's also started raining again. Here in Seattle, it's not unexpected -- but this late in the year a bit of an annoyance because by now we are all sort of ready for the fabulous summer the Pacific Northwest usually provides. We got a glimpse of it last week: 72-80 degrees and fabulously sunny. It was pretty much a green heaven for two-days. Then, the 20% chance of rain struck, meaning pretty much 100% in the end.Hence the gloom -- but after my "do not disturb" ended this morning, I woke up to the wonderful, bright, beautiful sunshiny treasury above. Pretty much made me want to blast "shiny happy people" this morning. But, alas, my husband was home -- not having physical training because of duty yesterday -- and certainly needing a bit of 'vege' time prior to "spring cleaning" happening around his office this week. Here's to bright sunshiny weather that will eventually head our way -- at least that's what the national weather service tells us. Please be correct, NWS -- it often seems as though you just sort of throw darts to explain weather phenomena here in the Pacific Northwest. ~Maggie~ |

It's a Spring Sale, but it's something more...
Currently, My Etsy Shop is having a "Spring Sale" -- boasting 25% off every item in the shop. It's pretty exciting.
But there is a reason behind just Spring Time here -- hopefully we are moving to a larger studio space next month, and to do that, I am discounting the shop so that I have an easier time of moving.
Let's be honest -- I am a pretty prolific creator right now, there are literally hundreds of items in my shop. Yes, each one is made by me, personally. Which means in my now tiny studio, there is limited space for both the finished products and the "parts".
That is a super horrible photo of a fraction of my gemstones -- yes I do keep them color coded like that, and since that is a while ago I have about a half dozen more of those tiny little organization containers. Now, however, I have them separated by gemstones, glass, crystal and pearls -- but all still color coded.
Another bad picture -- clearly I have to refinish my desk prior to the move (am hoping to convince hubby to get me a new "set up") but those are a fraction of the strands I barely have the space to even get into. Look at those Placid Blue pearls I can barely think of touching. Sigh.
I know, I know it seems selfish -- I am putting all the items on sale so that I can work more items, lol. But, I figured also (probably not the best business acumen here, but it is my shop after all) hey, it's almost mother's day -- and if I had the space, I could finally finish some of those personalized necklaces I have been jonesing to create.
Soon, I can only say soon.
Happy Spring -- and happy shopping.

Digging this Purple Haze of Radiant Orchid

It's the wonderful femininity of this treasury that really strikes me. It's vibrant and soft all at once. And to be honest, I personally would love getting any number of these items on Mother's Day.

Feeling St Patricks Day...and other reasons to cook a "destination meal".
Hubby and I are not well to do in any sense of the word. Like many Americans, we simply "get by." Sometimes by the thin ice we most certainly skate.
But, every year on this very date -- we have the fight on wearing green. I personally am wearing two green shirts -- though deep down (thanks to my Mother's love of genealogy) I know I am not the slightest bit Irish.
However, I and two of my three kids have red hair that runs deep. My oldest, in fact, who is in his teen years actually seems to be getting a fully red beard. But, with the red hair, everyone assumes there is a wee bit of Irish in us. The wee bit is actually Scots -- which if you know your history were invaded by the Vikings (pirates historically) from much of Norway and present day Denmark (where hubby and I were married).
This southern Denmark -- areas of which were Prussia in the past -- is where it is most likely our Red hair lineage comes from, and quite possibly that wee bit of Scots on my Mom's side.
So, on Saint Patrick's Day, we wear green so that we are not inadvertently pinched. We also celebrate -- as though we are Irish -- because it's just sort of expected after all these years I suppose. On days like today -- even though it is Monday and I have a ton of stuff to do for the shop and hubby is out doing his Army training -- I make a destination dinner.
What I do is simple -- I peruse Pinterest fora bit and pull in some ideas on Irish Fair -- knowing full well that hubby drank the last Guiness last night. I then make a few things that need to be mailed and package items up -- and I come home to start making Irish Soda Bread and something with it.
Hubby then chooses our "destination movie" something that is set in the area we are "visiting" through our dinner and drink. Thus -- we get to "feel" like we are traveling a bit even though we are barely skating by like much of America. It sort of takes the sting out of things and allows us the freedom to pretend we travel as much as we would like.
Seriously, try it. I will be donning my Irish flag socks, wearing a few shamrocks on my ears, drinking an Irish Red and trying a few of these:
While it won't make me Irish -- certainly I will be enjoying the views of Ireland on whatever movie it is hubby chooses.

Waiting for Spring
I am sitting in my room / studio, my legs propped up, my back aching, and the guys outside my window cleaning the heavily clogged gutters. It's a fine way to start a Monday, along with running out of coffee creamer on Friday from my husbands obsession with coffee at all hours of the night. I also went to the store numerous times this weekend forgetting creamer each and every time.
So, I suppose this is the universe telling me it's time to cut back on my creamer / coffee concoctions each morning? Maybe. But, I'll likely not listen.
I've been trying to figure out where the tension in my back / neck is coming from of late. Sure, I have old Army injuries that often flare up during Seattle's cold and rainy winters -- but this feels differently. Normally, I could go get a massage and feel like a million bucks after the guys in the Mall do everything short of ripping off both my arms and beating the rest of my back with them.
That just didn't help this weekend.
I could be irritated with hubby going away for a few days -- across the mountains, through heavy snow and blizzard conditions to train soldiers yet again. I could be stressed because therapy is particularly difficult this month. It could be a fear of writing a true story in three different "tones" like I am required for my Veteran's Writing Class -- hosted by my local Vet Center and put together by the wonderful folks at the "Red Badge Project" (Seriously, check this organization out).
But more likely than not -- it's the stress of waiting for my VA claim to be complete. It's a long and tedious process, and you never really know how it's going. You can call the 1800 number, getting "Peggy" but really you never really get any information. You can check your status online -- but again, you just leave the website more confused than before.
So, I listen to the rain, in its abundance here south of Seattle. I try to enjoy it. I contemplate making an appointment to see about my back and that one weak knee that just wont get better.
And -- I am grateful that I thought ahead a couple of years ago and created a portable box -- so that my studio could go anywhere with me. So, even though I sit here, uncomfortable, waiting for tylenol to work -- I can still create, and calm my weary nerves.

Calling in Sick
It's an odd thing, running a business from home. In some ways -- I work all the time on the shop, much like I did when I worked in an office all the time. It's one of those things a work-a-holic is saddled with: a constant drive to improve with the inability to ever really 'turn-off'. I did it in the office, and now I seem to have that same obsession in the "studio".
It's rather sad really, when I think about it. For while one could certainly say that the time spent in my "studio" or my "shop" are for me anyhow -- is it really?
Last night I was packing up some last minute orders -- just before dinner, and just before my writing class I take through my Local Vet Center where I live. Dinner had finished, and I had not. I still had writing to complete / perfect for the class and I was still packing up what needed to get mailed.
My daughter walked in as I was stressing about what to complete first -- I went with the shop stuff before focusing more on the 'me' centric writing -- and asked if she could just make the sides to go with the meatloaf I had made. While this is a wonderful thing my daughter asked me -- and I let her do it of course -- I wonder, how much time when the kids are home am I too focused on the shop?
It's an important question when the lines are more thoroughly blurred like this in a "home shop" -- sometimes I wonder where the shop ends and where "home" really begins. Indeed, I often have to make a formal decision to stop with the shop (as I have stopped shipping 7 days a week, since the Post Office now locks its doors and I am constrained by dropping off during certain hours) and 'start' with the family.
For while working with the metals and gemstones is a healing thing for me - it's calming to my very tactile nature to be sure - there is always a time that becomes less healing, and more hiding. Hiding behind my drive focuses my attention from what I should be doing, what I need to be doing and stops the actual healing process at some point. I know this intellectually, but when one has dueling priorities it's tough to choose: Build the Business into a successful endeavor, or focus on what I started this with, calming my weary nerves.
So, today I called in sick to the shop. My shop. I was angry with myself, and thought for certain I was faking.
And lets be honest, even when I called in sick from work in the office, I still checked as much as I could at home -- so I will probably check on the shop once in a while. But, for now, my 'to-do' list is put to the side, my 'must create' and 'must photo' lists can wait for tomorrow. Even my mid-day chores around the house (which I use to break up the long days in the studio and working on the shop) will get done when they get done today.
I am calling in sick -- and probably watching many, many hours of cooking on television. This is for one reason only: For me.

Non - New Years Resolutions ...
Every year before now, I've had New Years Resolutions. This year it's not so much about 'resolutions,' but instead just about focusing on the positive.
Here's the thing -- my Mother and I started working with beads literally ten years ago during the holiday season, and for us, that's quite a feat. See, we're both a little flighty in our own ways, and I wasn't really crafty before ten years ago. Sure, I could make certain crafts, and bought things at Craft Stores for the kids to play with -- but I was never into doing the whole crafty mom thing. My mother, on the other hand has been through all the crafts you can imagine before beading -- from knitting and crocheting, to tatting, to painting, you name it and while I was growing up, she tried it and got us girls into it -- for a time.
I, on the other hand, have always been super high strung and the thought of sitting down and creating something never seemed like a valuable use of my time. Plus -- my time was limited, first there were all those hours in the Army.
Then there were kids -- all born within three years of each other -- they needed me more than a glue gun or some bead stringing material. Then there was college, a job search that took six months and added too much stress to my already hectic life (imagine being unemployed, out of college, unable to get unemployment because you went straight to college from the Army, but having to keep day care, and paying for it so in case something came up you were not searching for care for three full-time care kids -- not a lot of fun). Then there were hours of overtime working for the government in the midst of two wars -- kids needing my time, a husband deployed seemingly all the time, etc., etc., etc. And after everything finally got normal, and the bills were met, and the time was there for everything, and bam! The Army tells you you have to move.
So we moved, and a job I was supposed to have evaporated in the ten days it took to drive from Washington to Texas -- seeing family along the way, and a new job search was upon me. Then the job I found was short - term and another job search was upon me. Then -- I became so allergic to the area, I had to move the kids to an area where I did get a job -- and that Term but will become permanent, we swear, if you just move here evaporates because Congress fights tooth and nail, where would one find the time or inclination to find a hobby that makes sense considering where you are in the world? It's amazing to me really -- and no I do not mean to toot my own horn -- what I have done in the past year.
Sure, I kept applying for jobs left and right, (and still do), kept working at perfecting that resume, and making sure my suits were ready at the drop of a hat in case I got that magical call for an interview. But it was harder than anything I have ever been through -- it's tough to sit there applying and applying and hoping something will work out and only getting the automated "we got your resume" followed by the "we went another direction" emails. It really wrecks havoc on the psyche.
So -- 18 months or so ago, in the middle of surgery while hubby was still stuck down in another assignment, someone bought a pair of earrings I had forgotten I had listed. Then someone bought a necklace that same month. It was a boon to my ego -- so I said, you know what? My resume says I can do all this stuff -- it's been a while, but let me prove it, if only to myself.
So I did. I relearned how to writing Marketing copy for my humble little shop -- I learned about SEO both on Etsy on off. I worked diligently at photography and 'staging' -- I worked at building my community. And now, here I sit -- looking back at the past 18 months and I am proud. Very proud. While it's been tough, and there have been days I have just wanted to pull my hair out, I can now actually add a few more keywords to my resume.
Tripled both revenue and sales in one year.
Increased interaction through social media channels.
But that's not the big thing -- that's not where my non - resolution is this year.
Where it is is this: I honestly started this year happy.
Sure I don't have a lot of money in the bank, and I work a lot of hours on the shop -- but I woke up on New Years day smiling, happy and ready to tackle this year with gumption and purpose.
And -- I figured out how to better edit my photo's which added to that already over-sized smile.

Sure I don't have a lot of money in the bank, and I work a lot of hours on the shop -- but I woke up on New Years day smiling, happy and ready to tackle this year with gumption and purpose.
And -- I figured out how to better edit my photo's which added to that already over-sized smile.
See?

Gemstones: Meanings or Chemical Properties?
I am supposed to be writing my Thesis. I really do intend to write a lot today--but I am amazed each day as we get closer to the holidays how many people are poking around in the shop. I am honestly humbled by this, as it is always a shock that people across the globe seem to not only enjoy the fun and flirty, but also the conservative, wear-forever, pieces I design.
I spend a little too much time on the metaphysical meanings of the gemstones -- I really got into this from my mother who decided she loved labradorite, not only for its wonderful "flash", but also for the "meaning of the stone." I remember when we first started going to gem shows she would always gaze at labradorite and chose some because it was "supposed to show me my life's path."
I found humor in that because when we started this, she was in her late 50's and I was in my late 20's. I remember thinking, "well if you haven't found it by now, I don't know if you will." She still adores Labradorite, but she has expanded to other stones--she had a thing for Amethyst this year and I am certain it is because of that poem: "Warning." The first line is: "When I am an old woman I shall wear purple." (Entire Poem). Although, I don't exactly consider her old. In my mind she will forever be mid-40's, as I remember her from my youth. True, she ages exceedingly well -- but still, even as I get older, she seems to stay the same age to me.
Amethyst by the way is a healing stone, associated with the planet Saturn and the 7th Chakra. It is said to guard against unpleasant feelings of self, and to guard against witchcraft. Healers wear it often during healing in order to focus energy, and it is said to help with opening your psychic self. I am honestly not sure what that all means -- but it sure does seem nice.
Lately though, I have been focusing on smaller pieces -- so that there is that little level of the gemstone, but with a dainty and flirty appearance. My new favorites are the same design, basically, but rich with meaning.
Ruby is a wonderful gemstone -- a precious stone, but bright red so a symbol of love. It's perfect for July birthdays as it's July's birthstone, but also adds something beautiful for the holidays. Considered the most powerful stone in the universe (how did "they" decide that? I mean, do we know all the stones?), Ruby wards off bad dreams, is a symbol of friendship and love and is also a symbol of royalty and vitality. Supposedly it also helps a person be the best person they can be.
Sapphire is an interesting stone also -- and actually the same stone as ruby but with other impurities that change the color. Sapphires are said to be a stone of fidelity and destiny. Also, they can help with clarity and financial rewards. (I should take these off the site and wear them myself, lol.) I love the color though -- as rubies are difficult for me to pull off with my red hair and coloring. For some reason it just doesn't work -- but my daughter looks fabulous in rubies, lucky.
Pearls and Diamonds -- ahhh. Pearl is my daughter's birthstone and there is some great ancient lore behind the pearl. It is said to occur when a drop of rain fell from heaven and became the heart of the oyster. It's also called the teardrops of the moon. Diamond on the other hand, does not have it's own healing energy, it supplements the energies of other stones. And in all reality I added them to this design to make the earrings shine a little more.
For me, I like to have the gemstone meanings -- and I like to research what makes a stone a stone. I sometimes get into the nitty-gritty of what makes that stone a stone. Take Amethyst, Citrine and Crystal Quartz: technically all the same stone, they even form together, it's just a mater of the impurities that bring out the color. To me, that's fascinating.
I think however, no matter how you look at a stone, a something to match an outfit, as something to mean something that you wear, or as a healing stone -- they all comes down to pretty. And there is deep beauty in how stones are formed, creating the rich variety of color out there in the world. And frankly, playing with the stones calms my often weary heart and mind -- as imagine wearing them makes customers feel like a million bucks.
We've been adorning ourselves for centuries with stones, but as a teacher in writing I once had always said -- it's not the pearls that make the necklace, it's the string that holds it all together. I really like that thought -- but sometimes the stringing is harder than choosing the stones. Just sayin'.

Is it autumn yet?
My son asked me what season it was right now. I told him it's technically summer, but you could really call it early autumn.
I really love autumn -- apples are in season right now, so there is a plethora of apple recipes people are pinning to pinterest. Pears are also coming in, so I can play with that as well.
Yes, I love all that summer has to offer in the Pacific Northwest -- but I grew up in New England, so autumn will always be near and dear to my heart. Once my dear friend gets over her horrid late summer cold, I imagine I will start to see autumn leaves from Vermont cover my newsfeed. I can't wait.
But, the problem with transitional times like this is that there are so many things to do outside the shop -- make sure the kids are getting into the routine, make sure lunches are healthy and hearty, make sure the not quite summer and not quite fall clothes are cleaned and often -- and make sure that while the body and mind naturally wants to gravitate toward autumn foods when the crisp morning hits, often by lunchtime it is far to warm to think about baking / cooking / doing anything other than take out.
So this transitional period is often a little slow in my shop -- I am honestly not making very much as I get the kids engaged in school, and get everyone used to the fact we are not in summer anymore.
There are some new items in the shop -- they are pretty classically designed, a wear forever kind of thing. And, I am fighting with the ever-changing rules of facebook, as in: what on earth do I have to do to get my posts seen.
I am also thinking of adding a few other areas of this blog -- like things I find on Pinterest to do (remember I am a klutz who can sprain an ankle sleeping at night -- so my pintrocities are pretty hysterical). But the thing really is -- I am not all about the jewelry, seriously, I don't actually wear jewelry very often. There's just a lot more -- and while I am shy, almost painfully so, maybe I should just do it, you know?
I am also starting to make tutorials for some of my designs, which is often fun.
Looking forward to a productive autumn...
~Maggie~
P.S. As a bit of a plug for the shop -- don't miss out on my Sale going on now, my 15 year wedding anniversary is coming up, so it's certainly a reason to celebrate.

Mystic Jewelry
I was just going over my facebook posts for today and noticed I have a whole lot of "mystic" this and "mystic" that. Which leads me to say -- what exactly is Mystic?
Well, I would love to think its one of those stones that actually has mystic properties -- but it doesn't, it's generally a heated finish to create an AB or aurora borealus (that's right, northern lights) finish on a stone, glass or I guess whatever they can get the metal (used in the bonding process) to "bond" to.
So -- the nitty gritty. What is "Mystic"?
They mystic "coating" is bonded to a stone usually using a metal, and most commonly using a clear stone. That is how one gets "Mystic Topaz" especially. I know I know it's all shiny and stuff, and it's unfortunate it doesn't actually happen in nature. I do personally view the process a little different than say heating a stone to change the color. See below:
This pair of earrings was created with a labradorite roundel that had been given a "mystic' coating -- normally titanium (the metal) bonded through heat to the stone (labradorite) to make it AB shiny -- like the northern lights. I know, I know -- why on earth would one do that with a fledspar that normally has actual AB inclusions that makes it shine and shimmer?
(Feldspards are the family of stones that contain Moonstone, Labradorite and Sunstone -- all naturally sparkly and shiny, even the non 'sparkly' regular moonstone).
But, meh, I guess the person who created these stones decided they just needed 'more' -- it's cool, I get it. Kind of. But, not really. It's still got that little extra something, you know?
These beautiful earrings were treated with heat -- and only heat to bring out this green color. They are naturally clear crystal quartz -- but in the heating process (usually using gamma radiation heat to bring out other colors -- which is hysterical if you see this became a big pair of green gemstones, like the Hulk becoming giant and green after his exposure to gamma radiation. Don't worry, you won't become the Hulk from wearing these, but you will look like a million bucks.) other colors are brought out, in this case "Emerald Green".
So, why all the "mystic" in my shop then? I honestly don't know, but I am pretty certain my daughter has something to do with it. But it sort of is fun to photograph -- just to see if I can bring out those color scapes added to the gemstones in my photography. Hint: I am not so good at it.

Magic Happens -- or so the saying goes.
I am going to come out and say it once and for all-- I do believe Magic Happens. You're probably wondering where I come to this conclusion from, having had a rough month or two -- mostly personal but partly frustration in the shop.
See, in the shop -- summer months are notoriously slow. Like snails pace -- or more accurately, it takes time for a caterpillar to become a butterfly. And honestly, who wants to be online shopping when you can be out in the markets, enjoying the sunshine and that one guy selling "Cadillac peaches" who gives free samples? The juice just drips from your chins, right? Delish. It's what summer is all about.
I have fought the urge to put my shop on vacation mode -- and just go out to enjoy the sun. Instead, I have just sharply focused when I do things, so that I can spend the summer with the kids, still clean up a bit around the house -- and keep the shop fruitful.
I also made one slight change in the shop that has done a world of good for my psyche. Usually I have on my listings: "Ready to Ship in 1 business day." But, a few weeks ago, I changed that to "Ready to ship in 1-2 business days."
I know, I know, it doesn't seem like much -- and generally I still get everything in the mail within a 24 hour period -- even on weekends which are technically not business days.
But, in giving myself that little bit of leeway for the summer -- I am now free to have an item sell at say 2 pm, and get it in the mail the next morning without dropping whatever I am doing for the day, but still be within what I promise. Just knowing I have that takes a load off, I must say.
Granted, when school starts back up, I will most likely return to the "1 day processing time" -- but the shipping will remain the same -- free and super fast. (I do first class mail for free -- during the holidays, expedited shipping will have a bit of a fee. First class generally gets across the country in 2-3 business days).
But the one day has left me with some fun in creating -- which means magic for my poor weary soul.

| This Sapphire Necklace is more about technique for me -- plus it is September Birthstone Jewelry, so I had to add it. I was perfecting my wire wrapping by doing these rosary style dainty necklaces. So Much Fun. |
![]() |
| I am adding this because in addition to being a rare form of apatite -- I love how much fun I had with the photography. It's a necklace, and individually wire wrapped in sterling silver and this beautiful Green Apatite. |
![]() |
| Simple and elegant -- these are the color of the year, and a little bit like Angelina Jolie's famous emerald earrings. These are Emerald Quartz -- created by heating the clear quartz to bring out the green. I am not a scientist, so I don't understand all of the techniques -- but I do know they sure are pretty. |
![]() |
| I made these as a process piece. I wanted to perfect the "all in one piece" earrings that these really are. They are Natural Peridot and Freshwater Pearl, on a one piece "ear wire". |
![]() |
| I have made heart hoops before -- but I have not played much with the precious stones on them -- leaving them to showcase the "hoop" more than the stone. With these shaded ruby heart hoops -- I played with both the ear wire and the stones to make something very unique. And I made them in gold because then I wouldn't steal them for my own jewelry box. |

| I am adding these pearl earrings because I just can't get enough of the color. Classic and elegant -- the perfect holly red for holiday events. |

Oh Gosh, Not the Creativity Slump!
I am sometimes pretty markedly creative, like so creative I get that wisp of a thought that "This Rainbow Necklace will change the world!" Then several people favorite it -- and my ego rises. I get happy, go-lucky and so excited that people think the same of that rainbow necklace I thought.
Then I wake up to a dreary Seattle morning with no desire to even edit the photos I took the day before for the shop.
I am not a psych major, so I can't tell you in all honesty where this sudden slump comes from. It's like: OMGosh, this can not be happening -- just after this massive surge.
I woke up like this on Monday -- after having a fabulous surge of creativity that lasted quite a while actually. Most of those new items are similar in nature however -- so maybe it wasn't as big of a surge as I thought.
When I get here -- to this out of creativity place, I write a lot. I tool around the interwebs. I look at other items by other creative people and I try to get sparks of imagination.
Or, I set everything aside and I take the kids to the pool, or out to a park, or something, and just take the day off from the shop. (Not really as still throughout the day I edited a few photos here and there to post, and watched my shop so I could ship orders quickly).
It's like lightening really -- so fast and furious. But worth the ebb and flow that it works in.
Maybe I should look at my gemstones once more and see if something "sparks" -- or maybe, just maybe I should walk for a while with the kids, after all -- even though they are older now -- they do still see the world in a very different way from me.

Christmas in July
When I was a kid, growing up in New England, there were a lot of stores advertising "Christmas in July" sales -- it was always a bit over the top with an air of "Sunday, Sunday SUNDAY" commercials on the local stations. Always (and still) kind of made me chuckle.
I never understood the concept until this year. See, it's not just for you, the customer, it's also a fabulous time to reorganize my shop and get some really interesting items in front of you. It's something deep-down about knowing my jewelry is out there in the world, and knowing it makes whoever owns it feel like a million bucks.
Take these fabulous (though a new design for me) Ruby Earrings I recently added to my "clearance section" for "Christmas in July."
They are kind of a hoop, kind of a dangle, kind of a leaf. But they are this beautiful variegated ruby -- starting at nearly crystal clear at the top and hitting that deep wonderful clear ruby at the bottom. Plus, I am a sucker for the photograph --it mixes the rustic favorite "prop" rock outside my studio, and the deep elegance of the fabulous rubies.
It's in the clearance section not because it is an old design -- like some of the other items -- but since it's Christmas in July, why not use something that can be either a gift for a July Birthday Girl -- or a wonderful gift to put under the tree -- or give for Hanukkah, or Kwanzaa. (These are normally $58, but currently on clearance for 34.80).
Some of the other items in clearance are a bit older -- a classic design that will always work, but still, I want to make room in the shop for the "new" designs I am working on.
See, I have quite a few items ready to post already -- I just have to have time to do it, really. But what is happening during this "Christmas in July" season-- is I am really playing with different things. I am trying some use of glass in order to bring in the gemstone look, but to be budget friendly, and I am also working out my Luxury Line (Like if the sun would ever come out today, I have some darling Rose Quartz and Diamond Oxidized Sterling Silver Hoops I would just love to cue at the beginning of the "I'm behind on posting these" line.)
So until I can get the motivation to post those new items -- I am adding to my clearance section some wonderful old favorites -- great ideas for the holidays this year, and several July Birthstone items.
Check out the Clearance Section when you get a chance -- it's dual purpose, Christmas in July, and Clearance after all.

Spring Colors -- Monaco Blue
I really do like quite a few of the spring colors. Monaco Blue is my favorite -- because gemstones are really quite easy to match to it.
Two very easy stones to match -- which I will focus on today are Lapis Lazuli and Iolite. Iolite is a little trickier because it often has purple and gray hues in it. Other stones to consider -- traditional sapphire, sodalite, azurite and london blue topaz. These are good to search for when looking for a fabulous Monaco Blue to match this season.
As for photos today, I am only going to post a few -- because my shop is really loaded with colors to "search for" related to the spring popular colors.
| This is a new necklace offered in the shop -- in stunning AA grade Lapis Lazuli and "Faceted" Sterling Silver spacer beads. Dainty and demure, and so much fun. |
The Lapis Bib Necklace is $112.00.
![]() |
| Some of my favorite all time Earrings, these "Lady Sings the Blue" are made using London Blue Topaz, Moss Aquamarine and fabulous little sapphires. |
![]() |
| Part of my new "Budget Luxe" line, these are beautiful Lapis Lazuli rounds finished on hand-hammered Copper Heart Hoop Ear Wires. |
The Copper Heart Hoops are $43.00.
![]() |
| My mother really wanted to steal these earrings from the moment I made them and showed them to her. This is iolite at its finest, wire-wrapped on 14k gold filled hoops |
![]() |
| I made these 45mm Sterling Silver Iolite Hoops to compliment the 14k Gold Filled Monaco Blue Hoops Above. These are just as lovely at at 1.75 inches, large, but not overwhelming. |
